I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the
faith: Hence-forth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me at that day.. .2

Miss Jackson was bom to the late Mr. Robert Harris, Jr. and the late
Mrs. Mary Lee Byrd. As a child she joined and was baptized at First
Christ Holiness Church, then later joined St. John Missionary Baptist
Church, Claxton, Georgia. She was educated in the Evans County
Public Schools and worked as paraprofessional and bus driver for the
Palm Beach County Head Start Program in Florida.
She was joined in marriage to Mr. Vincent Jackson in 1990. This union
blessed her with a step-son Cornelius Jackson of Fort Lauderdale,
Florida. She resided in Florida until her health began to fail. Velvet
returned to Claxton, Georgia to the love and comfort of her mother
where they cared for each other.
She leaves to cherish her memories her step-son Cornelius Jackson
(Fort Lauderdale, Florida), a special friend Harry McFadden (Claxton,
GA), brothers and sisters Dennis Byrd (Indianapolis, IN), Anthony
Byrd (Hagan, GA), Marilyn Police (Savannah, GA), Rita Hood
(Augusta, GA), Antwan B}nd (Lawton, OK), Sandra Shuman
(Pembroke, GA). She also leaves aunts and uncles: Martha Lee Bacon
(Glennville, GA), Maurice Oxendine Bacon (Hinesville, GA), Albert
Bacon (Reidsville, GA), Elizabeth Bacon Robinson (Jacksonville, FL),
Freddie Bacon Chance (Savaimah, GA), Violet S. Harden (Pembroke,
GA) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
