OBituary
Ovedia Ball Simmons was born March 2,1923 in Evans County, Georgia
to the late Theo Ball and Beulah Holland Ball. The past several years
she resided at Camellia Health & Rehabilitation Center of Claxton
before she departed her life on May 27, 2013 at Ogeechee Area Hospice
in Statesboro, Georgia.
Ovedia attended elementary school at the Evans County Training
School and one year of high school at the Mather School in Beaufort,
South Carolina. She completed her high school education at the Evans
County Training School. Later, Ovedia was united in holy matrimony
to the late M. C. (Mack) Simmons and they resided in Philadelphia, PA.
During this time, she received her practical nursing certification in
Philadelphia, PA and worked as a practical nurse until her retirement
and later relocation back to Georgia.
She joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age and was an active
member until she moved to Philadelphia, PA. Upon her return to
Georgia she reunited with Jerusalem Baptist Church.
She leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memories: three
sisters, Mrs. Avis B. Hagan (Booker) of Claxton, presently residing in
Atlanta; Milla Nease Hall (Charles) of Fitzgerald, GA and Gwendolyn
Cooper (the late Robert) of Dothan, Alabama; one sister-in-law Alberta
Ball (the late Warren Harden) of Claxton, presently residing in Atlanta;
six nieces, Vivian Ball Randolph, Brenda Malik (Rasool) and Euris Belle
all of Atlanta, Blondell Martin of Claxton, Jacquelyn Ovedia Cooper of
Alexandria, Virginia and Marilyn Cooper of Dallas, Texas; seven
nephews, James Ball of El Paso, Texas, Charles Hall, Jr. (Dorothy) of
Atlanta, Anthony Hagan (Merkyl) of Atlanta; Terry Alphonso Ball
(Janie) of Claxton, Michael Ball of Augusta, Kenneth Daryl Cooper of
Atlanta and Edward Ramon Cooper of Dothan, Alabama; and a host of
loving great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
