Mr. Johnny Lee Benjamin was born October 5, 1949 in
Claxton, Evans County, GA to James and Juanita Benjamin. He
passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
He received his formative education in the public school
system of Evans County and graduated from Evans County High
School. Upon graduation, he began working with the Walk
In/Drive In and Claxton Manufacturing. He was a member of St.
Christophers Catholic Church, Claxton, GA.
In 1971, he met his sweetheart, Barbara Cobb, and they
wed on December 23, 1973. Shortly after marriage, Johnny
enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served there as a Fuel
Specialist and retired after six years of service. He then returned
to Georgia with his family and began working with the Head Start
Food Service in Reidsville, GA. Later, he gained employment with
Georgia State Prison as a corrections officer. He retired after 24
V2 years of service.
Johnny was a simple man who enjoyed family, especially
spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed telling stories
of his time in the Air Force. He often spoke of his former job -
working with the inmates and in the towers at the prison. His
hobbies were old school cars (especially a 1967 Thunderbird),
fishing, watching sports and telling time.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother,
Stevie Benjamin.
He leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories: his
wife of 39 years, Barbara A. Benjamin, Waynesville, MO; one son
and a daughter-in-law, Jonathan P. and Tanisha Benjamin,
Waynesville, MO; one daughter, Olympia F. Benjamin,
Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Whitney V. Benjamin, Porche
R. Harmon, Obcsana A. Benjamin, Jonathan P. Benjamin, Jr.,
Jaymere T. Benjamin and Annyiah J. Benjamin; two great

Barto (Vera) Benjamin, Larry Benjamin and Gregory Benjamin;

Luretha Tillman and Nita B. Baker; his mother-in-law, Bertha M.
Cobb; two brothers-in-law, Darin Cobb and Curtis (Anna) Cobb;

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat upon a chair.
Perhaps you sent us beautiful flowers, if so, we saw
them there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words
that any friend could say. Perhaps you were not
there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever
you did to console our hearts, we thank you so
much, whatever your part.
