Pastor Lorenzo P. McNeal was born May 13, 1941 in Daisy, Georgia to the late James Robert McNeal
and Bernice Brewton (Covington). He was reared by his grandparents Bart and Annie Bell Brewton
along with his brother Calvin Riley. He was educated at Evans County High School, attended Savannah
State College; Johnson C. Smith Seminary and received his Doctorate of Ministry from Union Theolog-
ical Seminary. He received several certificates of merit and completion from the University of Georgia
and Armstrong State College. Pastor McNeal accepted Christ and joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Bap-
tist Church, now Historic Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. In 1963 Pastor McNeal accept the
call to preach the Gospel.
Pastor McNeal holds membership in several organizations, which include St. Joseph Lodge # 76, Clax-
ton Kiwanis Club, Lamar Carter Consistory 32 Degree, two Ministerial Associations, Georgia Associa-
tion of Broadcasters, the Evans County Chapter of the NAACP, Joint Area Ministerial Association
(JAMA) which he organized and other business, professional, civic, and fraternal organizations.
Pastor McNeal was ordained in 1963 by the late Rev. E. M. Solomon. He found his first station of ser-
vice for the Lord in 1964 at the St. Williams Missionary Baptist Church Reidsville, GA. During his ten-
ure in ministry. Pastor McNeal served a number of churches in GA. First Antioch Missionary Baptist
Church, Waycross, Charlton Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Cobbtown, St. Paul Missionary Baptist
Church, Sylvania, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Patterson, Jerusalem Missionary Baptist
Church, Savannah, Greater Cutliff Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Albany, First African Missionary
Baptist Church, Vidalia, Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Groveland and Historic Mt. Pleasant
Missionary Baptist Church, Claxton.
In 1979 he was elected as Vice Moderator of the Tattnall Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. where he
served as Vice Moderator 33 years. In March 29, 2009 he was elected as Moderator of the Tattnall
Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. In 1990 he was elected as Moderator of the Mt. Calvary Mission-
ary Baptist Association for 22 years. In2004 he was appointed Southern regional Vice President of the
General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. serving districts I, 2, 11. Pastor McNeal
served as Public Relations Director, Mission Director both Home, Foreign and Promotional Secretary
for all 12 Districts, revival speaker across the entire Southeast United States region and as lecturer
workshop leader for churches and associations serving as Program Director and General Manager of
WCLA, AM Radio Station in Claxton where he hosts Rejoicing In The Morning. He also worked as a
radio announcer with several stations in Georgia and WALB television station in Albany, GA, and he
established the Tele Communication Calling Post.
Pastor McNeal was recognized as a mentor, teacher, advisor, a leader, a visionary, a pastor to many
pastors in the Ministry, and he devoted long and untiring hours in giving advice.
Pastor McNeal heavenly father called him home on Friday March 16, 2012 after 70 years on earth.
Pastor leaves to cherish his memories: mother. Mother Bernice Covington; two sons, J. Vernard Flowers
(Lisa), James S. Flowers, Sr. (Valeria); brothers, Calvin Riley (Eddie Mae), Alexander McNeal (Hazel),
Lavon McNeal, Tony McNeal; sisters, Wanda Thornton (Leon), Tammy Thomas (Donald); uncle, Cleve-
land Brewton, Archie McNeal (Agnes), Tommie McNeal, Anthony Minor; aunts. Pastor Deloris Young
(Joseph), Jennie Ruth McNeal, Luella McNeal, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and host of
nieces, nephews. Godchildren, cousins, and friends. His nurses Elizabeth Porter and Agnes McNeal.
