Mrs. Edna Mae Conyers Quaresma was bom on August
14, 1936 in Tattnall County, Georgia to the late James and
Norma Dean Conyers. She was the fourth of seven children
bom to this union. She entered into eternal rest on
Thursday, August 26, 2010.
She attended the public schools of Tattnall County and
graduated in 1955 from Collins High School, Collins,
Georgia. At an early age she joined Charlton Grove
Missionary Baptist Church.
Edna resided in Newark, New Jersey for most of her adult
life. In 1977 she graduated from Rutgers University with a
B.A. in Urban Studies. Edna was a faithful member of the
First Mount Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of the
Pastors Aide Organization and the Bible Study. She was
also a faithful member of the Hopewell Baptist Church Bible
Study. Edna would assist in the church wherever she was
needed. She enjoyed attending the Senior Exercise Program
and travel provided by the Newark Office of Aging. She was
a great and loyal friend who will be missed by all who knew
her.
Professionally, Edna was employed as an elementary
school teacher in the Newark Public School System. She
retired from education in 2003.
Edna was united in marriage to Gabriel Quaresma who
passed away in 1964. She was also preceded in death by
two brothers, Sanford Congers and Julius Conyers.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: two daughters,
Shelia Conyers (Don) Mincey, Griffin, GA and Rhoda Kim
Quaresma, Newark, NJ; grandchildren, Brandon Donnell
Mincey, Lauren Ashley Mincey and Jordan Harleigh Mincey
all of Griffin, GA and Justin G. Quaresma, Newark, NJ; two
brothers, Alex James (Linda) Congers and Harry (Shirley)
Conyers all of Hephzibah, GA; two sisters, Dorothy
Campbell, Metter, GA and Bemease (Willie James) Frazier,
Coobbtown, GA; sister-in-law, Maggie Conyers, Hoboken,
NJ; several nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
