A precious one from us is gone
A voice we loved is still.
A spot is vacant in our hearts
The world can never fill.
Mr. James Lester Youmans was born on September 15, 1946 to
the late Albert Clyde Youmans, Sr. and Mariah Francis Hunter Youmans
in Statesboro, Georgia.
At an early age, he joined the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist
Church. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Cathy Porter on March
17, 2000. He departed this life on March 22, 2008 at East Georgia
Regional Medical Center, Statesboro, Georgia, after a short illness.
He was the grandson of the late Professor William Youmans,
Anna Ruth Youmans Lawton, Rosa Smart Hunter, George Washington
Hunter, and Rev. Samuel Lawton. Seven siblings preceded him in death;
two baby boys, Rosa Mae Youmans, Gatherine Williams, Wendell, Annie
and Gilbert Youmans.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Mrs. Cathy
Youmans, Claxton, GA; eight daughters, Mrs. Michelle (Joseph)
Youmans-Perry, Ms. Stephanie Youmans, Ms. Lease Youmans, all of
Sanford, FL, Mrs. LCatie M. (Anthony) Littles, Clarksville, TN, Ms.
Felicia Youmans, Statesboro, GA, Ms. Becky Ellis-Youmans and Ms.
Gabrielle Ellis-Youmans, Register, GA, Ms. Sarah Ellis-Youmans,
Augusta, GA; one son, Mr. Gary (Precious) Brown, Glaxton, GA; two
sisters, Mrs. Marion Lenora White, Newark, NJ, Mrs. Anna Lurine
(Robert) Pondexter, Pompano Beach, FL; two brothers, Mr. Albert Clyde
(Alma) Youmans, Jr., Claxton, GA, Mr. George Youmans, Statesboro,
GA; one uncle, Mr. Hubert Lawton, Brooklyn, NY; five sisters-in-laws,
Mrs. Chris (Lacy) Hills, Mrs. Janice (Van) Brooks, Ms. Grade
(Edward) Porter, Mrs. Betty (Andrew) Rivers, all of Claxton, GA, Ms.
Josephine Youmans, Jacksonville, FL; two brothers-in-laws, Mr. Herbert
H. Porter and Mr. James E. (Rose) Porter, Claxton, GA; fifteen grand-
children; six great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins
and other relatives.
