OBITUARY
Geraldine Bacon Soto was born in Chatham
County, Georgia, on March 28, 1926, to the late
Pearlie and Mahaley Barnes. She departed this life
on Friday, May 4, 2007, at the Metropolitan
Hospital in New York, New York.
Geraldine met and married Jerome Bacon of
Claxton, Georgia, in 1941. In 1945, she moved to
Claxton. She quickly learned the chores and duties
of farm life. She had a great affinity for flowers and
pets. She always had a pretty flower garden.
Geraldine joined the Historic Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Church in Claxton. She was very active in the
church community and in the Evans County Public
Schools until she relocated.
In 1960, Geraldine was divorced and moved to
New York. There she met and married Carmello
Soto.
She was preceded in death by two infant daugh-
ters, Minnie P. Bacon and Helena Bacon. She
leaves to cherish her memories, her husband,
Carmello Soto of Bronx, NY; two daughters,
Shirley A. Harvey of Staten Island, NY, and Sandra
D. Bacon of Bronx, NY; four sons, Jerome Bacon,
Jr. of Fayetteville, NC, Mikel Bacon and Gary
Bacon, both of Claxton, GA, and Anthony Bacon
of Bronx, NY; seventeen grandchildren, fourteen
great-grandchildren and a community of nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
