'Iflivalk in the pathivay of duty,
If I work 'til the close of the day;
I shall see the great King in His beauty,
When I've gone the last mile of the way."
Good Evening Lord,
You are ushering in another evening untouched and freshly , |
new, so here I am to ask you God, will you renew me too? ; j
Forgive any error 1 may have made. Dear Lord it was you who i |
helped me along the way.
Father my days were short and 1 didn't make it on my own
.. .You took my hand, held it tight so that 1 would never walk
alone.
Lord, you blessed me with such loving parents, the late Booker
T. and Anzila Houston who named me Cathleen on the day of
my birth, June 22, 1950 in Statesboro Georgia; some years later
my parents answered your call and relocated to Miami, Florida,
where I lived until I was twelve years old, after which time I
moved back to Georgia with my paternal grandmother in Daisy.
1 became a member of St. Luke Baptist Church in Daisy where
1 joined the choir. I received a portion of my education in the
Evans County School District in Georgia, graduating from
Claxton High School in 1968 . .. returning to Miami as a young
adult I became a member of Drake Memorial Baptist Church
where I remained for many years until 1 decided to join the
New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship
of Reverend Dr. Arthur Jackson Jr.
You blessed me with employment with the Miami-Metro Dade
County Government, where I served in many capacities and
retirect after twenty-five rewarding years in the Miami-Metro
Dade County Property appraisals department.
Lord, you decided to test my faith and strength, but mercifully
gave me a praying family for support. My body was weakened.
... but my faith was made stronger. I knew to abide m you and
you would abide m me until I heard your voice on April 19,
2001 say, come home!
The sun has set on mortal life and I leave with memories to
cherish, daughters: Fichmger and Quatella Powell; grandsons:

Ricks; brother, Wilbert Houston; brother-in-law, Arthur
Williams of Tallahassee, Florida; aunts: Ms. Eula H. Bacon, Effie
H. Culmer (Cameron), Clara H. Roundtree (Edward Sr.) all of
Miami, Martha H. Bacon of HinesvUle Ga, Edwiaa H. Averett
(Sammie) of Savannah Ga, and Leola Walden of South Carolina; !
ne^ews, Wilbert Forbes of Miami, Florida, and Tovian Williams ;
of Tallahassee, Florida; nieces: Lawanda H. Jackson (Bruce), '
and Ditoria Houston; ex-husband, Charles Powell; special ;
cousin, ETienne Roundtree; special friends, and Herschel Wells, |
and a host of special cousins. Lord I thank you for them all, as I
well as aU of my faithful and dependable friends. I
There are three steps to heaven: out of self, into Christ, and into \
glory, Cathleen took the first two steps while living a beautiful
life in Christ. She has now taken the third and final step, where \
there is no more weeping, no pain, no sorrow, no \
disappointment... we know she is satisfied and reaping great \
rewards.
When day is done, a figure j
turns and says a last good-bye, i j
Although we cannot understand where :!
she must go or why. ^
But as she leaves our sorrow and i j
sad tears behind, ! {
She moves ahead to seek the peace J
that every soul must find. 11
For now she sails a differentship, ; j
upon and new discovery. 11
And when her journey brings her to |
that distant lighted shore.
She'll be greeted by the outstretched ; j
arms of those who've gone before.
And people she had known and ; j
loved and voices from her past, i;
Will sing out the welcomed news____ ! j
Cathleen is home at last. ^

May I go now? Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain-filled days and
endless lonely nights?
IVe lived my life and done my best,
an example I tried to be,
So, can I take that step beyond
And set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might.
But something seem to draw me now
To a warm and loving light.
I want to go, I really do.
It's difficult to stay,
but I will try as best I can to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me
And share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid
Because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that
And hope you'll always know.
That God will take care of you, wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me, you know I loved you too.
That's why it's hard to say goodbye and
End this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time
And let me hear you say,
Because you care so much for me,
You'll let me go today."
I will meet you in the Rapture!
Love,

Gone is a mother loved by all
Her soul now at rest.
She'll sleep in peace-- her work is done-
A mother's work the best.
She'll know the joy of perfect rest
In heaven up above.
Where she may dwell contentedly
Protected by God's love.
Our hearts may grieve that she must lie
Beneath the sacred sod.
And yet we know she lives in peace
Within the house of God.
: i The bible records that "he who wants friends must first show ;
