In a small rural community in Evans County, Georgia called Mount Pleasant
on July 27, 1899, a child was bom to this union of Thomas and Maggie Denmark.
They called this gift of God...Annie Bell.
She came from a very strong Christian family with quite strict parents whose
father served for many years as Deacon of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist
Church.
History reveals that her father Thomas was one of the persons who gave land
for the development of what was called Mount Pleasant School.
Annie Bell was the fifth child of the marriage of which there were five girls and
four boys. Living today is one sister, Roberta Brewton of Daisy.
The CLAXTON ENTERPRISE in 1988 honored her with a feature story of
her life as a youngster, working in the fields and her school days. She joined
Mt. Pleasant at the age of nine (9) she attended Sunday School and was a
member of the Mission Department.
At Mt. Pleasant during the early days of what was called Big Meeting a
time of Annual Revival Services Thursday was always her day to prepare meals
for the Pastor and visiting Minister. She loved her church and gave her very
best for its upbuilding and encouraged complete loyalty.
She is preceeded in death by her husband of 46 years, Bart Brewton who
passed this life in 1969.
She spent the past years recounting life - changing events of working in the
kitchens of people, raising their children, working in the various fields, watching
traveling shows that would come to town and cherishing the home near Daisy
that was built and dedicated to the glory of God.
She voted in almost every election, served as a Counselor for the family in
times of crisis, and spent a lot of time talking with her friends both Black and
White, and making sure that when you stopped by, there was always something
in the kitchen to eat.
She was a dominate force in the life of her children and grandchildren who
have gone on to live productive lives.
Over the past years because of her poor health she spent a lot of time in hos-
pitals, in doctors offices, with her grandson in Waycross and Albany and at
home with other members of the family who came to visit on weekends or during
the week when it was necessary for someone who cared to be there.
She leaves a life memory to one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Covington of Savannah;
one son, Mr. Cleveland Brewton of Jacksonville, FL; two grandsons, Mr. Calvin
Lee Riley of Savannah, and Dr. L. Perry McNeal of Vidalia; two grand-
daughters, Mrs. Wanda Middleton and Mrs. Tammy Fault, both of Savannah;
one sister, Mrs. Roberta Brewton of Daisy; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Lee
Brewton of Jacksonville, FL; one brother-in-law, Mr. John Brewton of Daisy;
nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Done In Loving Memory
THE FAMILY
There is really nothing we need know
or even try to understand
If we refuse to be discouraged
and trust Gods Guiding Hand...
So take heart and meet each minute
with Faith in Gods Great Love,
Aware that everyday of life
is controlled by God Above...
And never dread Tomorrow
or what the Future brings,
Just pray for strength and courage
and trust God in all things...
And never grow discouraged,
be patient and just wait
For God never comes too early
and He Never Comes Too Late!
