Sis. Mattie Pearl Woody departed this life at Memorial Medical
Center in Savannah, Georgia on Sunday, July 16, 1989.
Sis. Mattie Pearl Woody was born the fifth of thirteen children
to the union of Mrs. Hattie Rutledge Graham and Mr. Samual
Graham, Sr.
A native of Five Points, Alabama, she was married to John
Wesley Woody who preceded her in death. She also was preceded
in death by a son Willie H. Woody, both her parents, seven
brothers and one sister.
After graduating from the Polaroe School of Cosmetology in
Birmingham, Alabama, she worked for a time as a beautician in
her hometown of West Point, Georgia.
Sis. Woody moved to Claxton, Georgia in 1951 and resided here
for thirty-eight years. Active in the community, she owned and
operated a beauty parlor until she became disabled.
She united with the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in
Claxton, Georgia and she attended regularly until she began to
suffer ill health.
She leaves to mourn her passing three loving children, Jerome
Woody of Claxton, Georgia, Curtis Woody of Atlanta, Georgia
and Dorothy Woody of Statesboro, Georgia. Six loving sisters,
Essie Byrd of Hagan, Georgia, Ruth Hall and Sunette Parker of
West Point, Georgia, Irene Bell and Annette Gross of Dayton,
Ohio, Jewel Bryne of Fairfax, Alabama and a brother Frankie
Parker of Atlanta, Georgia. Two brothers-in-law, Robert Bell and
Diamus Hall. A daughter-in-law, Charlotte Woody and a son-in-
law Don Jones. Many nieces and nephews and a host of other
relatives and friends.
