Mrs. Derrie^Slater McClain was born December 15,1911
in Liberty County, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Turner Slater and departed this life August 24,
1979 at 1:20 a. m. at the Evans Memorial Hospital, Claxton,
Georgia.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Jesse McClain
on Novmeber 4, 1927. Two children were born to this union,
but she was Mother to several.
At an early age, she joined the Philadelphia Baptist
Church in Liberty County. After moving to Claxton, Georgia,
she united with the Green Cypress Baptist Church where she
served as a member of the choir, president of the Mission
Society and in other capacities until her death. She was also a
past member of the W.M.B.S. Society.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Mr. Jesse
McClain; two sisters, Mrs. Gracie Davis of Claxton, Georgia,
Mrs. Mary Charles of New York, N.Y.; one aunt, Mrs.
Alberta Ford, Miami, Fla.; one uncle, M/. frejj^i^^ennett^
