OBITUARY
How beautiful it is for man to die upon the
Wall of Zion, to be called like a watch-worn and
weary sentinel to put his armor off and rest,
In Heaven.
To serve ones country is an honorable deed,
to die for it makes one a hero.
P.F.C. Bernard Bacon, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lander Bacon, was born in Evans County,
Georgia, April 1, 1949, and departed this life May
14, 1970, in Vietnam. He attended the public
schools of Evans County, and was a member of
the Graduating Class of 1968 of the Evans Coun-
ty High School, Claxton, Ga. He was drafted
into the United States Army July 10, 1968. Dur-
ing the summer of 1969, he was called to duty in
Vietnam.
He will be sadly missed by his mother and
father, Mrs. Utah Bacon and Mr. Lander Bacon,
Bellville, Ga.; four brothers, Mr. Clarence Bacon,
Mr. Timmons Bacon, Mrs. Lorenzo Bacon, Bell-
ville, Ga., Mr. Hazel Bacon, Miami, Fla.; seven
sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Olds, and Mrs. Pauline
Bryant, Miami, Fla., Mrs. Celia Seay, Manassas,
Ga., Mrs. Claree Porter, Glennville, Ga., Mrs. Dora
Wilkerson, Miss Sandra Rose, and Betty Jean Ba-
con of Bellville, Ga.; three half-brothers, Mr. Lan-
nie Bacon, Miami, Fla., Mr. Willie Otis and Mr.
Rudolph Bacon, Reidsville, Ga.; one half-sister,
Mrs. Ora Lee Jones, Miami, Fla.; three aunts, Mrs.
Mary Wright, Claxton, Ga., Mrs. Ida Mae Woods,
Manassas, Ga., Mrs. Maggie Chapell, Glennville,
Ga.; six uncles, Mr. Lawrence Bacon, Mr. William
Brewton and Mr. Sam Brewton, Claxton, Ga.,
Mr. William Bacon, Manassas, Ga., Mr. Lovett
Bacon, Hagan, Ga., and Mr. Fisher Brewton, New
Rochelle, N. Y.; four great uncles, Mr. Doyle
Brewton, Savannah, Ga., Mr. Samuel Bacon, Clax-
ton, Mr. Rimbert Bacon, New Jersey, and Mr.
Rogers Bacon, Ohio; one great aunt, Mrs. Willie
Williams, Glennville.
