Washington Geo [Georgia] July 10th 1854
My Dear Julia ,
I received your letter of the 6th Inst [Instant] to day [today] & I was happy to hear that you & Sallie were both so well & cheerful -- Lou says she believes you & "Sis" are as gay as larks & enjoy The Thing very much as you are constantly writing her of company & gay scenes. I hope it is so, for it is True wisdom to cast away care & enjoy all the innocent pleasures we can -- Lou is well but very feeble We are in the midst of rubbish & lumber, Mr. Green & the brick layer are both at work & getting on bravely. I hope all the worst of the work will be over by the time you get home, Tho' [Though] there is much yet remaining to be done

I am getting on pretty well with the court business -- hope to get thro [through] by Thursday evening, but that is quite uncertain -- I shall press the matter as much as possible & leave the Earliest moment I can get off -- I am getting very very impatient to see you again. Gabriel & family all well, also all the rest of our friends. Mr Stephens is with me in good health & sends his best regards to you & Sallie -- If you get off as soon as you expect to Mr. Pendleton's you will not get This much sooner Than I you will see me as I shall try to be with you on Monday morning -- My best love to Sallie, I send you many kisses
Yours as ever
