Creek Agency
15th. Decr. [December] 1817
Dear Sir
Two men were killed by the hostile Indians on the 7th. Instant on the road leading from fort Perry to Fort Gaines, and within a short distance of the latter place. Being at the Thlacotchcau Town near Fort Mitchell attending a meeting of the friendly Chiefs when this Intelligence reached me, I immediately gave orders to McIntosh to turn out parties of his friendly warriors for the protection of travellers on the public roads and to ascertain if possible the Towns to which the murdering Indians belonged
This order I have no doubt will be punctually obeyed, On my reaching this place I received from Genl: [General] Gaines a letter of which the inclosed is a Copy. By the unfortunate loss of the detachment under Lieut: Scott, I fear the Seminoles and Red Sticks of the late war who have joined them will be so much Elated that peace with them

must be preceded by severe Chastisement, I have however little apprehensions of any attempts being made by them on the frontiers of Georgia, so long as Genl: [General] Gaines Continues in force at Fort Scott, unless some straggling parties may Visit the frontier of Camden, and there I understand you have a Respectable force. The bulk of the nation within our boundary appear perfectly friendly

I am
Dear Sir
with much regard & esteem
your very obed Servt. [obedient Servant]
[Signed] D. [David] B. Mitchell His Excellency William Rabun Governor of Georgia Milledgeville
