Camp 115 miles
24 feby. [february] 1815
Since my communication by Majr. [Major] Tinsley of the 20 & 21 I have moved a mile for the convenience of [unclear text: cane ] for our horses. I find that Woodbine and his followers are returned to their head quarters below the confluence of the rivers and most probably all who were preparing for acts of hostility against your frontiers. We hear only of one or two stragling [straggling] parties being out. Since the disaster of the British forces at New Orleans the general opinion among them is they will have [unclear text: peace ] this spring. -- If a movement should be attempted from where the [unclear text: enemy ] are we shall have some fighting But I believe the Indians below are under serious apprehensions for their safety. The women and children in the utmost distress for food. All have fled from between the forks. We have found in their houses 50 muskets and 650 musket flints and [unclear text: have ] heard of more.
I have sent out detachments after beef which is scarce If I go towards Miccosuckee we shall find plenty. If I do not hear from you in three days I shall take such measures [illegible text] my own [illegible text] as will best secure your frontiers during the pressure of the enemy on your sea coast. I hear Woodbine is not an officer and that Colo. [Colonel] Nicolls is quite the blustering braggadocio It is said the Governor of pensacola has sent an armed vessell [vessel] for McGill and the Spanish Negros [Negroes] .

I am very respectfully
Dear Sir
yr obet ser [your obedient servant]
[Signed] Benjamin Hawkins
His Excellency Governor Early
