Fort Hawkins
5 Nov. [November] 6. A.M. 1814
I have recd. [received] an order from Majr. Genl. [Major General] Jackson of the
13th. Octr. [October] "To enrol [enroll] all the friendly Indians to feed and put them on pay and keep them embodied for the protection of this frontier" Cowetau will be their head quarters, I give you this information and request to be informed of the state of provision there and at the several posts. And what arrangements are made to keep up a Supply. I must apprise you also that from present appearances a body of 3 or four hundred mounted men will be called into the Agency to Cooperate with the Indians in Crushing a Strong hostile party of Simenolies who have entered our Country with an hostile intent.
The horses will require forage. If your department can furnish the necessary artificiers [artificers] we want immediately some boats and batteaus [bateaux] at F. [Fort] Mitchell to take provision and eventually men down that river towards its Confluence. The probable scene of future active operations. --
If after giving me the information required you deem it necessary to consult the head of your department before you take order to meet the wants suggested I request you to do so without delay

Accept assurances of the sincer [sincere] regard of Sir. your. Obt. Servt. [Obedient Servant]
