- This is a receipt dated May 23, 1789 and signed by John Howell for a cask of wine taken from a Georgia public store. The wine is a portion of the supplies being furnished the governor (possibly George Walton, 1789-1790) at an upcoming Indian treaty meeting. The intended negotiation referred to is probably the Rock Landing meeting that took place between U.S. and Creek officials in 1789.
