- This is a letter dated July 9, 1842 from Levi J. Knight to Charles J. McDonald, Governor of Georgia (1839-1843). Knight informs the governor that subsequent to calling Major Deas's (?) troops back into service after Indians attacked the Robeson family, he received the governor's letter ordering him to discharge the troops once again. Knight states that he has complied with McDonald's orders

10th May I have Recd [Received] my absence from home prevented my answering you sooner, The detachments ordered out under majr [major] [unclear text: Deas ] was Discharged previous to my writing you on the 19, but on the Receipt of the news [deleted text: of the ] that the Indians had Killed Robesons family I ordered Majr [Major] [unclear text: Deas ] out again with thirty men he went only five Days before I Recd [Received] your Letter dated
11th May when I discharged them since which time no forces have been out by any order from me,
I have the honor to be your Excellencys Obt Sert [Obedient Servant]
