His Excellency Charles J. McDonald
Sir
I Have the Honor to acknowledge the receipt of yours of the
19th Inst. the contents of which Shall be conveyed with so far as circumstances and inergitic [energetic] action shall permit. In regard to the appointment of a Quarter Master as you have directed, I Have to inform your Excellency that I have had the Services of Dr. R. McDonald from the Commencement who has furnished all in his power & whose services I Have found very usefull [useful] to me, I Hope it will meet the approbation of your Excellency to confer on him a Commission (if [unclear text: constant ] ) as it would give Confidence to the People in selling on the faith of the state.
In my last report to your Excellency, I then informed you that I had Discovered a fresh trail of Indians at & near the Cowhouse on the north side of the Okefunokee Swamp, which from causes their [there] stated I was unable to follow far into the Swamp, but have since renewed the chase by following their trail for several miles into [added text: the Swamp ] in order to find out their Hiding Places but after reaching a well known Island they Despersed [Dispersed] so that I was unable to follow them any farther. -- My Company is now engaged in Scouting around the Swamp for the protection of the most Exposed Inhabitants: I am also happy to inform [added text: you ] that the company, which I had the honor to command in the state & U.S. service has been paid.
