His Excellency Charles J. McDonald
Sir Indian Signs have been discovered in Several places around the Okefenokee Swamp in the county which has caused considerable alarm amongst the Inhabitants. Several have left thare [their] Homes through fear of an attack by the Enemy -- from the best Information I have Received I have no doubt. of the fact. of thare [there] being Indians in our county
Through the Instructions of Your letter of the
14th Sept. [September] and the Request of Genl. [General] Hilliard I cald [called] out my company on the [unclear text: 11 ] th. Instant for the protection of those exsposed [exposed] parts of the county.
Will Your Excellency please write me on the Subject with such instructions as You may see proper to Give
