To His Excellency
Geo. [George] R Gilmer
Governor of Georgia
It is a matter of fact, and might to be of some importance that I address your Excelency [Excellency] when I state to you a few particulars respecting the Indian situation in Ware which will show your Excelency [Excellency] the impropriety of keeping a regular force in that section as they are of no service to the county but on the Contrary they are decidedly a pest to the county. they are destroying more than they protect. instead of [unclear text: protecting ] the citizens property it is their business to destroy as much as lies in their power.
The Citizens hogs are kiled [killed] their Cattle kiled [killed], their crops destroyed and protection not [unclear text: allowed ] them, when they are in danger of the enemy It was thought by the citizens that the Posts established in the County were to be a place of [illegible text] for protection to their families in time of danger but they have been forbid to come near the station in time of danger their crops have been bought by some of the U.S. Officers, and often being used by them. pay was refused nor would they allow them any satisfaction for their [unclear text: produce ] .
They are calling for Volunteers to drive the enemy out of the County, instead of doing it themselves; they are lying at the Posts making gardens building houses & eating much sans provisions, and some of the men have been two miles from their stations; such is the facts and all that I have said can be seen by a number of Citizens of Ware Your Excy [Excellency] knows better how to act, then [than] a poor Citizen but I think it would be enough to enquire into the matter
I am your Excelencys [Excellencys] most Obt [Obedient] & humble Servant
[Signed] [unclear text: J.B.T. ]
