Fort Gaines
March 28. 1836.
Dear Sir --
Permit me to introduce to your acquaintance, Capt. William S. Wilson, a citizen of Fort Gaines, a warm Union man, and the friend of the writer. He visits Milledgeville with a view of obtaining payment for himself and his command as our county Guard organized under the act of
December 1835. I have given my aid in making out the necessary papers, and hope they will be found sufficient and in proper form. He tells me that he has authority from the members of the guard to receive and [illegible text] for the amount due for their services. He is ignorant what will be allowed for their rations; and I feel it my duty to say, that if the amount to be paid is left to your discretion, it should be liberal, for they were compelled to furnish themselves and their horses, & during a very inclement season of the year.
My course on the Indian Bill providing for our relief against the Creeks, having [added text: been ] grossly misrepresented by my enemies, & have to beg of you the favour [favor] to send me a copy of the Journals of the Senate by

the bearer if you have any on hand.

I beg you to make my respects to your family, and believe that with great regard, I remain Your friend, and obt. [obedient] Servant,
[Signed] Josiah S. Patterson
His Ex. [Excellency] Wm. [William] Schley Milledgeville
