To the Govenor [Governor] & Commander in chief of the state of Georgia Sir
acording [according] to [illegible text] your order for A Draught [Draft] some time since which was to have taken place we A few names of us whose names You have allreadey [already] in your office turned Vollenteers [Volunteers] at the call of our country and are not at your command and make one request of Your Excelency [Excellency] which is to let us [unclear text: noe [know] ] our Destiny as we are mostly Labouring [Laboring] men [deleted text: d ] wish to no [know] if we have to march or not soe [so] that we may noe [know] how to arrange our business to meet the emmergincy [emergency] of A campaign, I see from A Request of General Scott he has Requested you to furnish him with mountted [mounted] men which is contrary to our convenience as most of us are unable to furnish ourselves with horses fit for service of that kind, and those that are [added text: are ] Runing [Running] about seeking office in some [unclear text: grade ] or other to keep from Service of the Line I noe [know] several who are entirely out of business that might have Vollunteered [Volunteered] who [deleted text: is ] are now seeking office and making the Largest kind of show is A man is not willing to shoulder his muskett [musket] and goe [go] to the Relief of his fellow

man who is suffering the tortures & pains of scalping knife & Tomahawk of the savage is not fit for an officer whoe [who] ever has the good of his country at heart is willing to goe aney [go any] way. Just [added text: as ] we are and if our services are needed they are Reddy [Ready] and if they are not please Let us noe [know], we have equipt [equipped] our selves Reay [Ready] for A march in four & twenty hours warning and wait your order

PS, we have been at the expence [expense] of equiping [equipping] our selves and if our service is not needed to march to florda we are Disposed to form our selves into A companey [company] of Vollenteers [Volunteers] to serve our country when ever our service may be needed and wish to now [know] if your exelencey [excellency] if you will furnish us with A complete set of [deleted text: A ] arms & acoutrements [accouterments] for the purpose soe [so] that we may allways [always] be Ready for service whenever needed Yours in haste
