Dear Sir
permit me for the first time I have [unclear text: ever ] Troubled you [unclear text: any one ] of this state filing [filling] the office you do [deleted text: for ] to ask from you the appointment of Coln. [Colonel] of the Redgment [Regiment] from General Rutherfords Brigade, this is my understanding of the Law, -- that you have to make the appointment if so I should like to get it as to my qualifications you can know nothing about. If you will call on John A Cuthbert or Wilkins Hunt of Milledgeville they Know me if you can consista [deleted text: y ] ntly [consistently] with your feeling confer on me the command you will confer on me a favor and if I should be fortunate enough to get the appointment please inform me wether [whether] or not. I have the appointing of my own staff. I have Commanded the 56th R G M [Regiment Georgia Militia] Something better I believe then [than] 2 years as Coln [Colonel], and if it is not interfering to [too] far I want the Command of this detachment from this Brigade agains [against] the Indians
