Sir!
I beg leave to inquire of your excellency, if substitutes are allowable in such volunteer corps as may be anxious to assist in subduing the Indians in Florida? -- A majority of the Macon Volunteers can go in person, but there are some (equally patriotic) who can not leave their business at this moment without incurring ruin, & who will cheerfully contribute as far as they can to raising men & means.
The information desired is vitally important to some of our citizens & [deleted text: is no ] I submit the enquiry [inquiry] to your consideration, -- Is it binding on all the numbers of our volunteer corps to go in person & no excuse allowable but that of sickness?

Very respy yr Obt Srt [respectfully your Obedient Servant]
[Signed] Ossian Gregory
