- This is a letter dated February 5, 1836 from Peter Hagner, 3rd auditor in the U.S. Treasury Department, to William Schley, Governor of Georgia (1835-1837), informing him that the U.S. Treasury will pay the state of Georgia $15,000, as requested, for expenses incurred with respect to recent military action against the Seminole Indians, probably associated with the Second Seminole War (1835-1842).
