Dear Sir,
This will be handed to you by my friend Captn. [Captain] L N Mitchell who has recently been elected a Surveyor of the Cherokee Lands, & who I take the liberty of introducing to your acquaintance. Mr: Mitchell is a Gentleman of amiable character, and highly respected among us. He is among those here who may be considered your political friends, and was one of the small number who voted for you in October last. Mr: Mitchell is young and inexperienced with regard to the Country through which he has to travel, and may need some advice and information. May I ask for him your assistance in this regard, and any other you may be enabled to render him. I shall be greatly obliged by any [unclear text: facilities ] which your kindness may afford to him, and any [unclear text: attentions ] he may receive from your Excellency.

I have the honor Sir to be very truly yr: [your] friend
[Signed] =Levi S. [unclear text: D'Lyon ] His Excellency =Wilson Lumpkin.
