Genl [General] John Coffee
Dear Sir
Should the guard in the Cherokee Country be continued under the present Act, or a similar organization, I deem it a subject of deep interest to the State, that it should be under the command, and controul [control], of the most enlightened & competent citizen, whose services can be obtained for that service.
Should I have the authority to organize this guard, would it be consistent with your feelings & interest, to cooperate with me, in promoting this Branch of the public service, by taking the Chief command of the guard, let me hear from you soon, on the subject

Verry [Very] Respectfully your Obt Servt [Obedient Servant]
[Signed] Wilson Lumpkin
