7th January 1827
Dear Sir
Since I left Milledgeville a difficulty has occurred to in relation to the bridges in the Federal road -- The law under which I act does not say what bridges I am to rent, nor does it say any thing about the rates of toll -- Some of the bridges on the road have been Kept as toll bridges & some of them have been free bridges. I know not whether I should rent all of them or not, & should I rent any of those that have been considered free bridges I know not what toll to allow, unless I allow what has been allowed at the others -- It will be worth the toll on some to repair them & Be so good as to write me at Fort Mitchell what I had best do with them --
I find very few improvements betwixt this & the

Old Agency -- The Indians have frequently burnt the fences & houses & cut down the fruit trees --
I have had very bad weather from the day I left Milledgeville, and it is now so cold I can scarcely write.
There is a good farm here but the U.S. soldiers & the Indians have destroyed near half the fence --
