Your letter of the 17th instant, covering one for Major General Gaines has been this day received.
I trust the arrangement you have made will be perfectly satisfactory to General Gaines: - We have arms and accourterments [accouterments] here suitable for the Infantry.
By a letter from the Commanding officer at Fort Scott, of the 13 instant he informs me, that the Indians were to give their final answer to the General on that day.
I shall keep this open until the arrival of tomorrows mail; Should I hear from the General you shall be informed thereof
