- Letter dated September 24, 1817 in which Colonel David Brearly informs William Rabun, acting Governor of Georgia, about General Gaines' communications, the Indians' intentions to give a final answer to the General shortly, and Brearly's ability to support an infantry with the arms and accouterments he has. Brearly was ordered by General Gaines to muster Creek troops in the first Seminole War.

Your letter of the 17th instant, covering one for Major General Gaines has been this day received.
I trust the arrangement you have made will be perfectly satisfactory to General Gaines: - We have arms and accourterments [accouterments] here suitable for the Infantry.
By a letter from the Commanding officer at Fort Scott, of the 13 instant he informs me, that the Indians were to give their final answer to the General on that day.
I shall keep this open until the arrival of tomorrows mail; Should I hear from the General you shall be informed thereof
