St Mary's
Feby. [February] 8th 1817
Dear Sir,
By the enclosed affidavit you will perceive that a new act of aggression has been committed on the body of an Indian near the Territory of Georgia, which may bring upon the defenceless inhabitants of our frontier the revenge of some of his nation....
Your Excellency's letter of the 23rd ulto [ultimo] has been received & Directions have been given to the Sheriff to send the Horses immediately to Hartford.
Your letter of the 28th ulto. [ultimo] has also been received .. we have enclosed a Return of the Election of the Clerk of the Court of Ordinary

Georgia Camden County
Personally appeared Israel Barker & Gabriel Priest who having been duly sworn say, That they being together at the House of George Vinzant in East Florida were informed by him on the Sixth Instant that George Vinzant, his brother Stephen Vinzant, William Hogan, William Lain & a Mr. Young were out some few days since on an [unclear text: Allachaway ] expedition, and on their way on or about the Waters of Black Creek met with an Indian on horseback, and as soon as they discovered the Indian Stephen Vinsant drew his Gun and shot the Indian dead, and the company made a joint property of the Horse, and they returned home -- The deponents further say, that they feel much alarmed for themselves, their children and neighbors, as they are situated on the frontier
