Camp Hope
Decem. [December] 12th 1814.
Sir,
I think it necessary to apprise your Excellency by Express, the result of the requisition you made on Captain Moore of Jones County, who was to have brought in forty five Men;- he has arrived with only Twenty Four, and informs me the probability is that not more than one more will arrive, owing to many of his company that were in camp and dismissed, leaving the County on business.- Those that are with him, are all that were convened of the number selected by lot. -- Captain Hervey of Baldwin I am told is on his way with about 40 men, instead of 150 as was Expected.
Your Excellency will make the necessary order on this deficit. We shall in consequence fall greatly short of our complement
Maj. Dale arrived at Col. Hawkins last evening brings the following intelligence- 50 or 60 Brittish vessels have arrived at the Balize (Mouth of the Mississippi), Genl [General] Jackson had marched for New Orleans- The Infantry from all quarters of his District were marching in the same directions -- Maj Blue of the 39th with about fifteen or sixteen Hundred mounted men, Choctaw, Chickasaws & Creeks

were to march on the 1st inst. [instant] for Apalachicola, in pursuit of the Red Sticks and their allies- He was to use Waggons [Wagons] as far as practicable for the transportation of provisions then dismount 200 or more if necessary of his men and use their horses as pack Horses- Lieut. Carey of the United States army, and his associates three men, a woman and child passing on westwardly, are missing- They left Fort Jackson by water- The woman and child have since been massacred in the streets of Pensacola, having only time to state that she was of this party,- and that the men were killed. --

I have the honor to be with great consideration
Your Excellencys Mo: Obedt. Servt. [Most Obedient Servant] [added text (appears to be different ink and hand): all written by / . McIntosh ]
