His Excelancy [Excellency] Peter Early
Sir,
the Bearer of this will hand your Excelancy [Excellency] a petition praying Relief (for a short time) (from your Excelancy's [Excellency's] proclamation) for the Removal of the Citizens of Georgia from the Indian Land; this being a peculiar case I trust your Excelancy [Excellency] will feal [feel] willing to grant the Relief petitioned for, as Fort James has been Occupied Ever since the Garrison was Removed, without any Grumbling on the side of the Indians I lived their [there] Two years following the Removal of the United State Troops and during that time taught the Indians to believe that they had no control over that district and I verily believe that the [they] still Entertain that opinion It is all important to travelers that sum [some] person Shou'd [Should] live their [there] perticularly [particularly] in time of high water, as there is no place on th [document damaged: e Ri ] ver that Bluffs

are found on both sides the River opposite Each other, From Fort James To the nearest Bluff on the North side is Two miles, which is the only place of Feridge [ferriage] in high water- the whole of the settlers are people of Cullar [Color], but they are good honest people

We the under signed persons hath taken into Consideration the Cittuation [Situation] of [unclear text: Stepn [Stephen] ] Bugg & a [unclear text: Cisten ] [added text: family ] of people of the name of [unclear text: Unice ] who has for some time lived at Certin [Certain] place on the Indian land known by the name of Fort James Which place has been Jeneraly [Generally] Ocupied [Occupied] Sinc [Since] the withdrawing of the United States Army form [from] the Same And whereas it appears from your Excellys [Excellency's] procklimation [proclamation] that all those living on the Indian land is requred [required] immediately to withdraw from the same, We feel it our duty to petion [petition] your [added text: Excellyncy [Excellency] ] praying the relief of the Said [unclear text: Stepn [Stephen] ] Bugg & Unices as a foresaid So fare [far] as to Grant them the liberty of Staying on and poseessing [possessing] the [added text: place ] aforesaid till they can Geather [Gather] their Crops and Coveniant [added text: ly ] [Conveniently] Move from the same Which petion [petition] we humblely [humbly] Crave
