Dr Govr [Dear Governor]
The inclosed came from the [unclear text: Southward ] Since writing on Sunday & when I intended the letter should have gone for Augusta -- Col Fishbourne being disappointed himself & thereby disappointing me I have reced [received] a line from the Col Maxwell -- several signs have been seen & all the houses about Brunswick & South of the Alatamaha burnt -- I shall collect a general return of the People killed & property destroyed or lost by the Indians in this district & forward to you -- Is Whitefield arrived yet -- do let me know -- Col Maxwell is of opinion I should [unclear text: keep ] [unclear text: McGirt ] confined for a While without trying

him for fear of acquittal & discharge as he is much afraid of his being at liberty. I am clear if Council dont [don't] approve of the mode of trial. that as he is on the [unclear text: Bill ] of confiscation & outlawed he should be ordered on board some British Vessel & shipd [shipped] as the law directs -- I wish your sentiments as early as possible -- he has his advocates as I believe the Devil would in Georgia & may possibly escape us -- I would rather however we could do the business here without [illegible text]
