Sept. 24, 1787
Sir,
From the late Conduct of the Indians, am apprehensive that a Campaign will be Caried [Carried] on against them, and wishing to take an [unclear text: active part ] in some department or other, the line being fil'd [filled] up already prevents my geting [getting] in as an officer, and my Corpulence prevents my doing the duty of a Soldier, therefore have thought proper to apply to your Honour [Honor] should their [there] be any appointments in the Staff, to inform the Hon.ble [Honorable] Council that I shall be Glad to act in that line, and be so good as to inform them that I have acted in the Continental line as an officer for Six years and two years [deleted text: [unclear text: as ] ] in the staff, your [unclear text: fav.r [favor] ] in the above will ever be acknowledged by [unclear text: Sir ]

Y.r [Your] Most ob.t [obedient] & verry [very] Hble Servt. [Humble Servant]
[Signed] Peter Stubblefield
