respectfully sheweth [show]
That the Posts which have been established within their respective [unclear text: [deleted text: s ] ] counties are inadequate to the protection of their in habitants [inhabitants], but they are persuaded some of them from an accurate knowledge of the country and others from the best information which they can collect, that [unclear text: five ] Posts well secured and supplied with provisions might be erected in such situations as would afford ample protection or support to the inhabitants of the lower part of Great Ogeechie, if both the Canouchie settlements of the counties of Mc Intosh, Liberty, [added text: Montgomery ] and Bryan and indeed of all the settlements on the North side of the Alatamaha. The situations to which they refer are 1st Doctor's Town, on the south side of that river, 2d Beard's bluff on the north side 3, the high bluff at the mouth of the Ohoopie, 4th the long bluff near the forks of the Oconee and Oakmulgee [added text: 5th Berryhills Bluff on the Oconey ] The distance from the first to the second of these places is between twelve and fifteen miles, from the second to the third is sixteen miles, from that to the fourth is eighteen miles [added text: from that to the 5th 20 miles ] so that if these Posts

were well supplied with provisions and forage, the horse that might be established at them would be able to keep up a constant intercourse and to [deleted text: keep ] act speedily in conjunction whenever such a step should be necessary. Besides, this good effect these Posts would be proper places for the militia to resort to in cases of alarm, and by deriving their supplies immediately from them they would avoid the delays which are usual on such occasions and be enabled to pursue the enemy with sufficient dispatch should we at length [deleted text: [illegible text] ] be obliged to adopt an [unclear text: offer ] mode of warfare these Posts would be found very convenient in aiding the first movements of an army towards the Indian Country.

And your memorialists will ever pray & c. [et cetera]
