Honourd [Honored] Sir
A few days past some letters were handed me by Express from some of the Principal Inhabitance [Inhabitants] of Natchez, Requesting me to send to Your Honour [Honor], and inform you of their distresd [Distressed] Situation, For Tiranecale [Tyrannical] Governt [Government] Pressd [pressed] harder on them Every day -- wishing to know whether they might still Ground their hopes on Relieff [Relief] from Your Quarter, tho [though] should the situation of things plase [place] it out of your Power (this by the [deleted text: [illegible text] ] County belonging to the Spaniards or Otherwise) Are in hopes they may be informed of it as they may Get away with part of their Movable property, which must be down [unclear text: Unknown ] to the [unclear text: Comdt ] As Severale [Several] has Applyd [applied] and Can Only Obtain liberty to go themselves and Not Return, but must leave their property behind Orders have been issued for a Twelve Month Credit to be giving [given] to all Spanish Subjects for debts that have been Transacted and if any [unclear text: sutes ] Against them on the dockett [docket] to be dismissd [dismissed] But for those who Call Themselves Americans to discharge them Amediately [Immediately] as ther [their] property Sold. [unclear text: The ] Payment Acts (they Say) with a number of others, [unclear text: place ] them in a Situation Very disagreable [disagreeable], they do not mention those things to you under an Expectation of Redress, no farther than that your Honour [Honor] [deleted text: [illegible text] ] May inform them in what [deleted text: [illegible text] ] Situation they Stand, so as before Mentioned they may take Such steps as they find best for family and Property, they further Say [deleted text: they ] as living under the Spaniards they pay Every Attention to their Laws and Customs only they will not take the Oath proposed to them as they have Taken it before to America and Mooved [Moved] their [there] Under an Expectation of its being one American Country. This was the heads of their Petition to me. Only desired I would [illegible text] you they should be Ready when Called on to Reimburse Such as they May

Cast the Publick [Public] by your indeavouring [endeavouring] to save them, I have conformed my self as near as in my Power to the Instructions I Recd [Received] from the Honourable [Honorable] Legeslative [Legislative] Body, and Cannot help thinking hard of not hearing from them for [unclear text: Our ] instructions Says in the Second [unclear text: One ] yearly Revisions on the Premises for further Orders, [deleted text: [illegible text] ] but when Compeld [Compelled] to leave that quarter I Vicsed [voiced] my instructions and found by the 5 Ar. [Article] we [unclear text: were ] Ordered to Cultivate Amity with the Indians, when I am [unclear text: focusing ] my best Indeavers [Endeavors] In the Last Art we are ordered to Communicate to your Honours [Honors] Everything that may happen Respecting the Country [unclear text: as ] People which I have neaver [never] Neglected. Therefore flatter my self that your Honours [Honors] will by the [illegible text] send me in this In what manner I can hearafter [hereafter] to Act untill [until] Such time I shall Remain with Impatience
