Petition of James Rae, No. 49, praying for paymt [payment] of his salary as Superintendant [Superintendent] of Indian Affairs, and of two Accounts for supplies furnished by him for the Indian Treaty, in
1783.
The Committee find that the Petitioners two accounts, amounting to One hundred and seventy six pounds three shillings & [unclear text: qd. ] were examined and passed by a former house of Assembly, the
31st July, 1783; they therefore, recommend, that his honor the Governor be Empowered and requested to draw an order on [added text: the ] Treasury for the same, together with One hundred and fifty pounds for three years salary, as Superintendant [Superintendent] of Indian Affairs, up to the
12th January, 1785: And [unclear text: that ] the Auditor be directed to audit the said demands, and make the proper debits, which was agreed to
Petition of James Rae, No. 50, setting forth that early in the year,
1780, he received an order on Major General Lincoln, then commanding the Troops in the Southern Department, on Joseph Clay, Dep. [Deputy] Pay Master General, for three hundred thousand dollars, out of which there remains a ballance [balance] due him of Eighty nine thousand and one hundred and thirty two dollars and thirty eight ninetieths of a dollars;

that in expectation of receiving the said ballance [balance], he borrowed the sum of the twenty one thousand dollars, for the purpose of obtaining supplies for the Continental Troops, who were destitute of the same, which being reduced by the table of depreciation, amounts to one hundred and thirty one pounds [unclear text: specie ], for satisfaction of which demand his property [deleted text: has been ] is seized and taken by the Sheriff And, therefore, praying the house will grant him relief.
The Committee are of opinion that his honor the Governor be empowered and requested to draw an order on the Treasury for One hundred and thirty one pounds of [unclear text: Specie ], in favor of [deleted text: James R ] the Petitioner; and that the Auditor be directed to audit his account, and make the proper debits," -- which was agreed to
