January 10th 1814
Dr [Dear] Sir
I am requested by a large portion of the Inhabitants of this County, as their Representative to pray your Excellency, to Countermand, the order for the marching of the Detachment to the Indian frontier, it is the opinion of the whole County, that, we have nothing to rear from Indian invasion, as they have sufficient employment at home, whilst our whole Sea Coast has much to apprehend from British Spoilation [Spoliation] . those men now under orders to March; are Drafted from the Sea Coast. leaving their Families and property completely exposed. a man stationed as a lookout on the Island of Sapelo, reported on the third that an armed Boat Landed the day before on the Beach from a Vessel in the Offing. Mr Sherwood, the man Stationed as above is confident they were enemy's. I requested him not to communicate this to the people as it would, I apprehended create great uneasiness without availing us any thing but requested Mr Sherwood
