Sir,
Agreeable to your orders I Set out on my Tower [Tour] in Company With Maj. James Patton & Capt. Richard Smith on Friday the 23rd Inst. [Instant] and Crossed the Oakmulgey River at Braddeys [illegible text] place after Crossing Continued up the Swamp opposite Fort Hawkins, Then took Barnetts Trail two milds [miles], finding a path leading the direction of The River Continued it off and on Untill [Until] I was of oppinion [opinion] that we were low enough for the lower part of the County- finding a path Leading off from the River traced it Several milds [miles] and then turned for the River again struck the low grounds and continued up the Swamp untill [until] we struck the Trail, We Discovered Several paths that led to the River & apeared [appeared] like Crossing places No Late Sign of Indians the latest apeared [appeared] about five or six Weeaks [Weeks] past -- The Distance Supposed about forty

milds [miles] -- The water Courses as follows Down The Trace from opposite The Fort Seven milds [miles] to Gum [deleted text: Swamp ] Creeak [Creek] and one mild [mile] To [unclear text: Tobisofkey ] of a Thick Swamp The Latter of The [illegible text] Swimming & The Swamp allmost [almost] Impassible. Eight milds [miles] To The Six [illegible text] on [one] of Whitch [Which] was Swimming The Swamp intollirable [intolerable] More danger may be apprehended from Those Two Swamps Than from any other part of the Rout [Route] Seven milds [miles] to Sandy Runn Five milds [miles] to Cypress Two milds [miles] to Richland Creeak [Creek] & four milds [miles] to Rockey Creeak [Creek] The last stream worthy of note -- The Hors [Horse] flies & other Insects I Cant [Can't] Undertake To describe -- The Routs [Routes] Cant [Can't] Well be kept up by [added text: one ] Set of Men To do justice, or it would kill man & horse, As sutch [such] I shall beg leav [leave] To have it in my power To oppoint [appoint] another person if I should fail, I shall set out tomorrow morning for a nother [another] Tower [Tour] & on my return will write you again, & by That Time can form a better Idea What Will Compensate --
