State of Georgia Greene County.
October, 27th, 1786.
Personally appeared John Galphin and Philip Scott who being respectively and duly sworn make Oath that as they were on their return home from the Creek Nation and encamped between the fork of the [unclear text: Ockmulgee ] and Oconee rivers on the night of the
28th September last past, two Horses belonging to one of the Deponents (Philip Scott) strayed or were stolen in the course of the said night, and that the same have never been since recovered, neither have either of the said Deponents ever since heard any thing of them or either of them, and verily believe they are utterly lost. They further make oath that the lowest valuation they can set on the said two horses is twenty three pounds Current Money of this State. And further the Deponents say not.

Philip Scott further makes Oath that in case he should ever hereafter recover the two Horses abovementioned or either of them, he will deliver them or him or the Money he may receive for them [deleted text: to ] without delay to his honor the Governor for the time being in behalf of the State.

The Board having taken up the account of Philip Scott, who was employed to carry an Express to the Creek Nation, and has since been employed as an Interpreter at the Treaty.
Do Resolve that the said account (including two Horses that it appears by an Affidavit of Mr. John Galphin this [unclear text: annexed ] thereto were lost while he was on public service) is reasonable and just, and that the Chairman be authorized to pay the same.
