Sir
a few days since I had the pleasure to receive your favour [favor]
12th March by Capt. Shackleford, and am Truly glad to find that you have been kind Enough to him to let the corn be stored at-Highwassee a place that suits me much better than at Chickamaga under Every circumstance- You have no doubt before this been advised by the Secretary at war that the Treaty was not ratified, & the reasons why it was not; I believe that there would not have [added text: been ] the Least doubt of it, had it not apeard [appeared] to have been in the State of Tennessee, by Examining Bradley s map of the U.S. upon making the enquiry It was thought best to let it Lay over till an other [another] session there was Several Very well wrote memorials sent on against it by Vann Hicks & party, which went to protest against other Treatys [Treaties] on the Head of Elk & Duck rivers &c [et cetera] made

Lately- all that they could have done would not have had any influence [deleted text: on ] If the Cession had been made in the Land below Nickajack, or So. [South] of 35th Degree Latitude- which land is Solely under the direction of the Genl [General] Government. However as Tennessee has obtained Leave to purchase all within her Limits of the Indians as first as they will Sell- It is probable that there will be some provision made for the purchase at Chickamaga -- the Secretary at war promised me that he would Take what corn I had purchased, & that he would write Imediately [Immediately] to you on the subject If he has & you have it in you power, to forward me the money by a safe hand or by mail, I will Take it as a Very Singular favour [favor] for I assure [added text: you ] that cash has become a very scarce article in this part of the country- I suppose owing to the Embargo- Cotton, which is our Staple will not bring more than 12 1/2; cents at markett [market], a price that we are all unwilling to sell at -- I will thank you to give Me the Earliest information when the next annuity
