Executive Department Georgia Milledgeville
10th. Septmr [September], 1836.
Sir,
I am endeavouring [endeavoring] to collect the evidence necessary to enable me according to the law of the United States to demand from your excellency the Creek Indian Jim Henry, who is in prison at Gerard awaiting his trial for crimes committed in Alabama.
If he should be acquitted there, I have good reason to believe that he can be convicted in Georgia of a capital offence [offense] . Will you be pleased to cause him, in the event of his acquittal, to be retained in prison until I can make a formal demand.
Your letter of the
25th. July has been received, and as soon as I can prepare the statement you desire it will give me pleasure to furnish you with the information you seek.
I would be pleased if your excellency will inform me whether you received at Tuskeegee or elsewhere a letter I had the honor to address you from Columbus under date of the
31st. May last on the subject of the Creek war. -- No answer to that letter has been received.

I have the honor to be with great respect your obt. Servt. [obedient Servant] ,
[Signed] William Schley [added text (appears to be different hand and ink): Gov. of Georgia ]
