Merrriwether County
March 22nd 1836.
Mr. Fontaine
Sir
I Recd [Received] some time since a letter from Wesley Williams informing me that complaints had been laid before the Agent of investigation for the reversion of the entire section of land he sold me in Macon County . Alabama. and that the Agent had said that according to the instructions he had, the land would revert. but is it so that an indian complaint is to set aside an approved contract by the government? is it so that the transactions among men as important as that of valuable real estate is to be Jeoperdised [Jeopardized] in that facile way? if so then indeed let confidence in men and in common obligations cease -- and we will call nothing our own. I think I told you on some occasion that each half section was approved by the president -- at any rate it is so and am of opinion that the mere complaint of indians or the say so of agent will not so readily nulify [nullify] such a transaction and am not willing to back out Just here -- as being interested I hope you will see something to that matter and bring it to a fair and proper decision as soon as posible [possible] . Williams wanted to know what I would do in the case? I can say that I shall claim and hold the land if it is practicable and will look to the bond for protection until on its conditions no reliance can be placed. your attention to the above case will much oblige

Yours Respecy [Respectfully]
[Signed] H. H. Tignor

charge Mr Williams to hold on to the certificates. for I should under them think the land might be held by laws of Alabama
