Personally appeared before me, Henry Carrel, and being duly sworn sayeth that on the evening of the [illegible text] of this instant, there were two horses stolen from Captn. Stokes's volunteer troop station,d [stationed] at the long bluff, on the 2d. the Captn. with 13 men (this deponant [deponent] being one) crossed the ocone river and pursued on the trail of the horses, and by the appearance of the sign, there were four [deleted text: Indians ] [added text: persons ] . we came up with them on the bank of the oakmulga, and discovered three Indians, fired on them, the fire was retur'd [returned], Captn. Stokes rushed upon them, and took the ground immediatly [immediately], by the appearance of blood, two were mortally wounded and one certainly killd [killed] in the the [the] river. we recoved [recovered] our own two horses, and one other, three rifles and one smoth [smooth] -bore gun, with sundry other articles, and returned to our station without dammage [damage], except hunger and fatigue,
