Sir,
I do myself the Honor of enclosing to your Excellency an affidavit taken yesterday Evening before Judge Houstoun respecting the murder of a Family in Franklin County by the name of Crocket by the Cherokee Indians, the Gentleman who made the above mentioned affidavit is at present in Town, and will be ready to attend your Excellency at any moment you may require.

Richmond County
Owen Bowen of the County of Franklin planter being duly sworn saith that on Thursday evening last being the Twenty ninth [deleted text: day of the present Month ] [added text: ultimo ] he passed by the Home of one Mrs. Crocket a Widow woman in the said County where he saw the said Widow, and advised her to move away into the Fort in the neighbourhood [neighborhood] as two Indians had been [unclear text: on that day ] seen in the Settlement -- Next he said Mrs. Crocket replied she wold [would] move as soon as her son came home. [unclear text: That ] the next Morning the deponent went to the same House and there saw the said Mrs. Crocket, together with her son a young Man, three young Women and three children the youngest about six years old all lying dead -- scalped and cruelly mangled, [unclear text: & ] that from every appearance the said Murders were committed by Indians and by Cherokees as the deponent beleives [believes] . The deponent further saith that there were two War Clubs lying by the dead Bodies and several Arrows sticking in them -- this
