Affidavit of Danil Howard, (Freedman.)

[added text: 4X] Before me, O. H. HOWARD, Brevet Major United States Army, 2nd Lieut. [Lieutenant] 5th Artillery, S. A. [Sub Assistant] Commissioner Bureau R. F. & A.
L. [Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands], personally came Daniel Howard (freed [freedman],) who, being duly sworn, deposes and [added text: [] says, That after being captured by the whites at Camilla after the fight on the 19" of Sept, 1868, he deponent was Compelled by his captors to assist in gathering the dead & wounded freedmen & taking them to Camilla, that deponent & other [deleted text: [illegible text]] freedmen were told by a party of whites who rode into Camilla, to take their wagon out to a pond back of Dr Dashers house & see if any negroes were alive there, that they had shot twelve (12) at this pond, & if any of them were still alive, to bring them into town, that this was near dark. and before they reached the pond, he deponent took advantage of the darkness & Escaped.
