- Description:
- Rabun Gap, 1917. Students at Rabun Gap Industrial School pose for a photograph outside the original school building wearing costumes. They were participants in a school play. The school was founded by Andrew Jackson Ritchie and opened in 1905. Academic and industrial subjects were taught to both day and boarding students. In Feb. 1926 fire destroyed this main building. Shortly thereafter, fire destroyed almost all of the Nacoochee Institute in neighboring White County. Since the schools were similar, it was decided to merge them and build a larger plant at Rabun Gap. It was known as Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.
