- Description:
- Rabun Gap, after 1926. Views of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School. The school, which was founded by Andrew Jackson Ritchie and opened in 1905, was originally known as Rabun Gap Industrial School. Academic and industrial subjects were taught to both day and boarding students. In Feb. 1926 fire destroyed the main school building. Shortly thereafter, fire destroyed almost all of the Nacoochee Institute in neighboring White County. Since the schools were similar, it was decided to merge them and build a larger plant at Rabun Gap. It was known as Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School. Top: View of the school from a distance. Middle: Panorama looking west from the top of the Administration Building. Bottom: View looking northeast with the boys' dormitory in foreground.
