- Description:
- "East of Dahlonega, 1900. Ball Play Creek was dammed above falls shown here, to furnish water for the Briar Patch Mine. The water was carried from the dam at the falls through ditches and flumes to the mine on the Chestatee River. Originally known as "the cone mine" the Briar Patch was purchased by Senator J. C. Calhoun of South Carolina and Partners in June 1830. Indians played ball."--from field notes
